Handleiding voor dragers van projectie

H264
  • H264 encoding (a variant of MP4) is increasingly used as a selection medium for major festivals and as a projection medium for smaller cinemas.
Like Blu-ray, H264 has enormous potential, but is difficult to project correctly. All resolutions and image qualities are possible, from the lowest to the highest.

Voordelen
  • Quality: it is possible to encode videos of equivalent or higher quality than Blu-ray (H264 is also part of the Blu-ray specification, with a limit of 30 megabits per second).
  • Most of the time, H264 will be available for download, or possibly distributed on a USB key.
  • Weinig kostelijk om over te zetten en te verdelen.
Nadelen
  • Frame rate: the original frame rate (often 24 or 25 frames per second) of H264 files is not always respected, resulting in jerky fluid movements. Some H264 players may have difficulty reading difficult passages in a video, and start jerking.
  • Gamma (the speed at which blacks are served) and gamut (the hue and saturation of colours) are sometimes mistreated, particularly when H264 is played back from a computer.
